Configuration with certificate – Mac OS X
“Polimi-protected” and “eduroam” Wi-Fi networks

Before you begin
Please complete these checks before starting setup.
Do you have an expired certificate on your device? Delete it.
- Use Spotlight (magnifying glass at the top right) to search for the Keychain.
- Select “login” from the left menu and certificates as the “object” type.
- Select the expired Polytechnic certificates and delete them.
- Finally, check that there are no certificates saved in “System” (wrong location).
Are you using a USB-Ethernet adapter? Please plug it in and install it
To enable wired network access, the card must be inserted and installed before starting the configuration.
Install the certificate
- Click on the Polimi Personal Certificate
(The certificate is usually saved in the Download folder and has the .p12 extension) - Enter the passphrase set during certificate generation and press “ Install ”
Download the Eduroam Cat installer
- Go to https://cat.eduroam.org
- Click: “Click here to download your eduroam installer.”
- Select Politecnico di Milano as your affiliation organization.
If it’s not listed, use the search engine. - As user group select: polimi-TLS and download the installer.
Run the Eduroam installer
- Open and run the eduroam installer. A popup will appear saying “Profile downloaded – if you want to install the profile, check in system settings.”
- Open System Settings > General > Device Management
- under “Downloaded Profile”, click on “eduroam”
- At the confirmation message, press “Install” to begin.
Network Configuration
Open Network Preferences and select “eduroam” or “polimi-protected” from the drop-down menu (depending on the network you want to configure).
In the window that opens, enter this information and click Login:
- Select certificate: select the Polimi personal certificate
(appears as “Name Surname NNNNNNNN@polimi.it) - Leave the “account name” field blank
You have finished setting up your first Wi-Fi network and wired access
- Repeat step 4/4 to set up the second Wi-Fi network as well.
- The certificate expires two years after it is generated; you’ll receive an email notification approximately 15 days beforehand.
Upon expiration, the connection will stop working, and you’ll need to reconfigure it with a new certificate.
