Virtual Desktop: software for study and teaching

Participation in many Politecnico programmes, exercises or labs envisages use of the Virtual Desktop service, a virtual environment where the specific software are made available for the educational activity. Individual users may access the service via a PC connected to the network (personal or already present in classroom) and use the software as if found on his own computer. The virtual desktop service can also be used both in classroom and from remote location during specific time slots.

Recipients

Students, professors, temporary research fellows and researchers.

Activation

The service does not require any activation, it is available at once for all recipients.

Access in classroom

The service is accessible: in the computerised and wired classrooms of the Leonardo and Bovisa Campuses

Via personal Pc

  1. connect the cable (notice: the cable is not supplied) to a network socket
    If the PC is not configured for wired access, it is possible:
    – configure it following the instructions for the Permanent connection (recommended)
    – access the wired network using the Temporary connection
    (connection with bandwidth limitations)
  2. if the PC lacks it, download and install the  Citrix Receiverclient
  3. open a browser page and connect to the address  https://virtualdesktop.polimi.it/
  4. log in with the University login credentials (Personal code and password)

Via PC supplied to the classroom

  1. Switch on the PC and open Internet Explorer
  2. Connect to https://virtualdesktop.polimi.it/
  3. log in with the University login credentials (Personal code and password)

Remote access

The Virtual Desktop service is accessible during these time slots: Monday to Friday: from 20h00 to 2h59; Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8h00 to 2h59.

To connect:

  1. connect to Internet
  2. if the PC lacks it, download and install the  Citrix Receiverclient
  3. open a browser page and connect to the address https://virtualdesktop.polimi.it/
  4. log in with the University login credentials (Personal code and password)
